Why should I choose Mel Hux Christian Academy for my child?
Providing children with the best academic education possible is one of the most critical responsibilities of parents. Choosing the best school for your child is no easy task, so we encourage you to research your options and make an informed decision that will truly benefit your child and pave the way for a great future. MHCA offers your child a unique learning experience, because we are the only school in the area to provide:
-
Academic education that is individualized for each student to help them master each area of study at their own pace
-
Biblical education, free from any denominational influences, that cultivates spiritual and character growth as a result of each student’s genuine relationship with God
Is MHCA affiliated with any particular church or denomination?
Our school is sponsored by the Fulton Church of Christ, a non-denominational, Bible-teaching congregation. We are not affiliated with any denomination nor do we teach any doctrine other than the Bible. Our curriculum is unique in that it teaches each student how to study on their own in addition to presenting core material. The benefit of this in the context of Bible education is that each student will learn how to study the Bible on their own. When a person studies God’s Word on their own, without any extra-Biblical influences or teachings, they come away with a true understanding of Scripture. We are committed to providing sound Bible education that uses God’s Word as its sole source material.
What grades are offered at your school?
We offer a full kindergarten through 12th grade education at the conclusion of which graduates receive an accredited college preparatory diploma.
Is your school accredited?
MHCA is not currently accredited, but we will be seeking accreditation in the near future. However, the curriculum we use (see below) is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the Commission on International and Trans-regional Accreditation (CITA). In short, our use of curriculum that is fully accredited means your child will receive an education of the highest quality and graduate with a diploma that has been accepted at many prestigious universities nationwide.
What curriculum do you use at MHCA?
Our curriculum is provided by Accelerated Christian Education (www.aceministries.com), and we utilize their School of Tomorrow model. We chose ACE because of their proven track record over the last thirty-five years. ACE emphasizes spiritual and character development and combines Biblical education with traditional academia.
My child excels in one subject but struggles with another, how does MHCA addresses challenges such as this?
One of the many benefits of ACE’s curriculum is the individualized diagnostic testing to determine the academic abilities of our students in each area of study. This makes it possible for our students to advance in areas they excel and truly master the subject matter with which they struggle, all at an individual pace.
How large are your classes?
We set our standards high with a maximum teacher to student ratio of 1:15.
Do you offer extra curricular activities?
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) allows private and home-school students to participate in public school extra curricular activities. However, the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) restricts participation in competitive activities to students enrolled in public or MSHSAA member schools only.
In short, this means that students of MHCA will be allowed to participate in public school band, choir, theatre, and other non-competitive extra curricular activities, all at no cost. Students of our school will also earn credits for those classes they take through the publuc schools. The only limitation is that our students will not be able to participate in public school sports or band competitions.
However, there are many home-school and other private school networks that we plan to be a part of to provide an even better selection and quality of extra curricular activities than is offered through our area public schools.
Do you offer transportation services?
We do not offer transportation, so we ask that each student’s family arrange transportation to and from school.
Is there a lunch program offered?
We do not currently offer a lunch program, so we ask that each student provide their own meals and snacks. To keep tuition at a reasonable and competitive rate, we are not equipped to run a cafeteria and keep up with the many state regulations and costs associated with that. However, students may bring their lunch in insulated containers with ice packs to keep their perishable items fresh.
How much is tuition?
Our tuition is competitively set at $250 per month for a 10 month school year.
